Today in Island History
24 June 1866 Father George Belcourt debuts his horseless carriage at a St. Jean Baptiste Day picnic in Rustico, thus becoming the first Canadian motorist, the first to buy a car, and the first to import one. He is also the first to have a car accident when he fails to negotiate a turn and goes off the road. The machine is retired.

Inside the Island Magazine there's something about nearly every aspect of our heritage. You'll find people, communities, enterprise, genealogy, natural history and folklore. The PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation takes great pride in producing the only remaining magazine of its kind created and printed entirely on Prince Edward Island.
